  • DSSTF PUSHES FOR SAFER WATERWAYS

The Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF) has renewed calls for stronger security on the State’s waterways, following concerns raised during its courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, the 24th Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command. During the visit, the Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Rt. Hon. Samuel Osasa Esq said safer waterways remain critical part of the State’s broader security strategy, especially for riverine communities.

During the engagement, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi stressed that the Delta waterways remain highly vulnerable and require urgent attention through patrol boats, improved surveillance and stronger coordination among security agencies. The Police leadership present noted that if the waterways are protected, residents will be exposed to insecurity, and businesses will be at risks.

The Police further observed that effective waterways security cannot be left to one agency alone. They called for greater collaboration among the Police, local communities, vigilante groups and relevant government agencies to improve intelligence gathering, monitoring and rapid response.

The Board welcomed the concerns and reaffirmed that DSSTF remains committed to supporting strategic security initiatives across land and water.
