DSSTF TO PLAY STRATEGIC ROLE IN PROPOSED COMMUNITY SECURITY LAW REVIEW
In a major step towards strengthening community-based security in Delta State, the State House of Assembly has scheduled a public hearing to amend the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Law. The hearing is slated for Friday, May 9th, 2025, at the Press Centre of the Delta State House of Assembly Complex beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF) has been identified as a key stakeholder in the legislative process and is expected to provide expert input to guide the reform of the law. The DSSTF’s involvement underscores its central role in advancing a coordinated and sustainable approach to security management across the state
The Chairman of the Joint Committee on Bills and House Committee on Peace and Security, and Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon.(Dr.) Emeka Nwaobi, is calling for written or oral submission from all relevant stakeholders. In particular, memoranda are being sought from security agencies such as the Delta State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Ministry of Justice, and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), alongside DSSTF.
Also expected to contribute are the Council of Traditional Rulers, the Directorate of Political and Security Matters, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and representatives from various sectors (public and private). All memoranda must be submitted in 30 copies, sealed and addressed to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Bills and Committee Peace and Security. Submissions are to be delivered to the Clerk of the Committee not later than Thursday, May 8th, 2025.
